Why choose natural linen curtains?

Embrin is the specialist in Norman linen . This remarkable plant has been used for generations for its many benefits , as well as its natural elegance. Did you know? Unlike cotton, linen requires very few resources and little water to grow in Normandy’s fields. It is therefore an eco-friendly plant to favour if you are looking for a lifestyle in harmony with nature. If you or anyone in your household suffers from allergies, linen is naturally antibacterial . Hypoallergenic, all our Embrin linen curtains have been awarded Oeko-Tex certification . You can enjoy beautiful curtains with a unique crumpled look, while caring for your health and the planet. To demonstrate the quality of our Norman craftsmanship, we offer to send you free samples of our linen curtains . Which shades will you choose?

Are linen curtains blackout?

The blackout level of your linen curtains generally depends on their weight. If you already have blackout shutters and your room is already well insulated, you can opt for a lightweight linen voile with a weight of 125 g/m². Would you like to have curtains in a bedroom to block out light , cold , and also surrounding noise ? In that case, choose a weight of around 800 g/m². All our Embrin curtains have a weight of approximately 310 g/m² . In other words, they let the light through without affecting the temperature of your room. However, you can choose a more or less substantial lining.

Which lining should you choose for natural linen curtains?

It is the lining of your Embrin curtains that determines their blackout and insulating properties . Blackout linings are particularly suitable for bedrooms. Satinette linings , on the other hand, are the ideal choice for a living room or dining room with double glazing. With our Nacre natural linen curtains , for example, your living space benefits from plenty of sunlight. You can also choose to select no lining . However, please note: your linen curtains will be more likely to lose their lovely colour over the years.

How to wash natural linen curtains?

You can wash your linen curtains dry or at a cold temperature . We recommend machine washing on a cold cycle, using a gentle and environmentally friendly detergent . Take care not to exceed 30°C and ideally choose a spin speed of no more than 400 rpm. Rather than using a tumble dryer, it is preferable to air dry your washed linen curtains. You can also wash your linen curtains by hand . Simply soak them in a basin of lukewarm soapy water. Gently rub the curtains, drain them without wringing the fibres, and allow them to dry outdoors .

Do I need to iron washed linen curtains?

Not necessarily! Washed linen has a lovely crumpled appearance, instantly recognisable. Would you prefer curtains without creases ? You can also smooth out your linen curtains by using your tumble dryer on a low temperature , selecting a cool cycle. Then, you can: either hang them up straight away and let the creases fall out, or iron them while the fabric is still slightly damp . They will finish drying once they are hung.

What width should you choose for linen curtains?

It all depends on the number of panels you plan to install on your window. With one or two panels, the total width of your linen curtains will be approximately twice the width of the pole . In general, the pole extends 20 centimetres beyond each side of your window. The width we use for Embrin curtains is between 1.6 and 2 centimetres , taking the pleats into account. This width is, of course, adjusted according to the finish you choose (eyelets, single or double pleats, or flat pleats).

What height should you choose for linen curtains?

In most homes, the curtain pole is usually fixed about 5 centimetres above the window . For a perfect and straight drop , it is best to choose a linen curtain that stops 1 centimetre above the floor. For a more modern drop , leaving a margin of 5 to 10 centimetres works perfectly well.

Are there made-to-measure curtains in natural linen?

Yes! Because every interior is unique, Embrin offers you an online configurator for personalised linen curtains . The process is very simple and will only take a few minutes. You will start by selecting the colour of your choice from over 15 shades: ivory white linen curtains, cinnamon, khaki, or even chocolate… Next comes the choice of side dimensions , meaning the width of your pole and the number of curtains you would like. Then, you can determine the height of your curtain , as well as the type of drop (breaking or just touching the floor). After that, you will need to choose your curtain heading . There are 10 types available: antique copper eyelets, nickel eyelets, pinch pleats, or hidden tabs on a pole… Once again, you are spoilt for choice. Finally, you can choose the type of lining for your linen curtains. We offer a light sateen lining and a blackout lining with the highest insulating power. You can also choose linen curtains without lining.

Which sofa should you choose with natural linen curtains?

Did you know? Embrin also offers linen sofas , as well as armchairs . They feature the same elegantly crumpled look, perfect for a beautifully harmonious interior decor . What’s more, they are particularly comfortable and will accompany you for many years to come. Available in several colours , they pair perfectly with our 100% washed linen curtains. Are you considering beige linen curtains ? You can choose a sofa or armchair in the same light shade, or opt for a brighter blue or red to create a contrasting effect.

Which colour should you choose for washed linen curtains?

Attractive curtains do more than simply shield you from light or prying eyes: they complete the decoration of your room , depending on the colour you choose. That’s why it’s important to make the right choice! A bright and original colour such as our hop yellow curtains will bring a sunny touch to a living space like a lounge or dining room. To help you drift off to sleep in a bedroom , why not opt for softer shades, such as our mouse grey linen curtains ? Embrin curtains are available in a wide range of colours. In any case, we recommend choosing a shade that complements your existing décor .

Are washed linen curtains environmentally friendly?

Absolutely: Embrin curtains are made from 100% linen, a local plant that requires very little water. Grown without fertiliser , our linen also absorbs a significant amount of CO2. It is then harvested mechanically, without the use of chemicals. To ensure nothing is wasted, every part of the linen plant is used in the making of Embrin items. All our linen curtains are hand-sewn to order. Of excellent quality, they will decorate your home for many years, without needing to be replaced over time.

Where are Embrin linen curtains made?

The linen used for our curtain models is responsibly grown near our workshop, in Seine-Maritime . It is harvested mechanically and without any use of chemicals by our long-standing partner Terre de Lin . Our linen curtains are then made in France , with respect for nature and local traditions.

When I received my order I immediately saw that everything was perfect: high quality parcel, careful inside, delicate presentation of the linen and of course impeccable quality and making. Fully deserved compliments, which make one proud to have such a French company. Well done to everyone (especially to Hélène)

Quite simply perfect! Quality and making of course, but also: attention, kindness, taking into account the slightest request, punctuality. I really appreciated the spirit of this company, well done!

For over a year we have been using Embrin products, bath towel, pillowcase, fitted sheet, duvet cover, napkin. The quality of the products is really appreciable. (The products become softer and softer after each wash.) The parcels are carefully packed, the team's responsiveness is great. We can only recommend Embrin, a fine French company!

Linen sheets grown, spun, woven and sewn within a small area. Thick, strong fabric with a beautiful colour, which arrives very nicely packaged with the name of the seamstress for even more personalisation and traceability. A rare but so precious company nowadays.

I am finally taking the time to thank Hélène and the seamstresses at the farm who managed to make and send me 3 beautiful raw linen tablecloths for our wedding table in record time! French making with excellent value for money, which can be proud of itself for the great quality of its linen. Not to mention the made-to-measure design, the kindness and attentiveness to find a solution during the holiday period! In short, I highly recommend!

We have been loyal for several years. Sleeping in linen is really most pleasant. Butterfly sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, everything is perfect and their linen weaving does not wear out like the usual sheets you find in shops. Also, the welcome is warm, it is a pity they are so far from us to visit them.

Order arrived quickly, very well packed, careful work, the finishes are impeccable, the colours match the pictures on the website. You can feel the love for working with this material from the field to the making. I think I will order again, long live local shopping and French work.

Very beautiful covers with nice finishing. The order went really well! The team always answered my questions quickly and clearly. The colour of the sheets is even more beautiful than in the photos. I followed the care guide to the letter with the steps before first use. Really all good and well thought out!

Thank you again for your magnificent products, very well made. Third order with you, the quality is always there. Of course it is an investment but at least everything is made in France! Colour that matches perfectly with the honey colour!
