How to care for your linen quilt?
Placing a linen quilt on your bed ensures a soft and comfortably warm sleeping experience. Could this be the very definition of happiness? You may be wondering how to care for your new linen quilt. Embrin shares its method and tips to ensure your linen quilt enjoys a long life.
Characteristics of the linen quilt
The Embrin quilt features a cover made from patterned fabric in 100% washed linen and is filled with wadding made in France consisting of 50% merino and 50% polyester. Oeko-Tex certified, it contains no harmful chemicals for the skin or the environment.
How to care for a linen quilt day to day?
Washed linen is a fine, natural fabric that requires little maintenance. There is no need to give your quilt special daily care. Moreover, it is designed to be placed on top of a sheet or duvet and therefore does not come into direct contact with the sleeper’s skin.
There is no need to wash the quilt every day, or even every week as you would with a duvet cover.

Washing your linen quilt once or twice per season is enough to freshen it up and restore the wadding’s loft.
Between washes, you can leave it outside in the fresh air for a day to dust it and remove any viruses sensitive to heat or cold.
How to wash a linen quilt?
To wash your Embrin linen quilt, machine wash it cold, ideally using a gentle spin cycle suitable for delicate fabrics. A natural or ecological detergent without bleach will clean your quilt while respecting both the fabric and the planet. Avoid detergents, bleaching agents, and chlorine, as these damage the colours and the linen fibres.
For the first wash
Before the first wash, we recommend soaking the linen quilt in a basin of cold water with 25 cl of white vinegar to set the colours of the patterns for the long term. A few hours will suffice.

How to remove stains from a linen quilt?
Quilts can be exposed to many stains such as chocolate, tea, coffee, or lipstick. Fortunately, Embrin shares some natural remedies:
-
For chocolate stains: a mixture of warm vinegar, lemon juice, water, and washing-up liquid.
-
For blood stains: a mixture of warm water and washing-up liquid.
-
For wine stains: sparkling water.
-
For coffee stains: scrub with stain-removing soap.
-
For tea stains: a mixture of 90° alcohol and white vinegar.
-
For lipstick stains: methylated spirits.
How to dry a linen quilt?
To dry your quilt, nothing beats fresh air. A tumble dryer on a gentle or delicate cycle is also possible.
Drying at too high a temperature may shrink the merino wadding inside and eventually damage the linen fibres.
Tip: Do not hesitate to lay it flat to help the filling settle evenly.
