Oeko-Tex certification for our linen home textiles
Throughout our lives, we are in direct contact with textiles, day and night. We wear them against our skin, sleep in them, dry ourselves with them, use them to decorate our homes, and so much more. Isn’t it essential to know that your textile products are completely safe for your health? Bed linen, table linen, decorative items... Embrin has chosen to work exclusively with Oeko-Tex certified textiles. But what does this actually mean?
What is the Oeko-Tex Label?
The Oeko-Tex label is the first certification designed to guarantee the human-ecological qualities of textiles. It certifies that these textiles are free from toxic substances for both the body and the environment, following a series of extremely strict tests. The Oeko-Tex label allows consumers to be certain that the clothing, fabrics or household linen they purchase contain no harmful substances.
The origins of the Oeko-Tex label
This label was created in 1992. Until its launch, there was no reliable certification for assessing the ecological quality of textiles. It is managed entirely independently by an association called “The International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology”.
The certification process
All tests required to obtain this certification are standardised worldwide. This gives the label real credibility and ensures an identical level of requirements for all certified companies. What are the requirements of the Standard 100 Label?
This label is awarded to products that have successfully passed rigorous tests organised by independent institutes of the OEKO-TEX® Association. These tests cover over 100 health and environmental criteria. Among the criteria certified by the label are:
- the absence of allergenic dyes or carcinogenic azo compounds,
- assurance that the product does not exceed the authorised pesticide limit,
- or that the product’s pH is suitable for sensitive skin…
It therefore guarantees the non-use of numerous chemicals harmful to health and the environment, even if they are not yet regulated by law.
