Some Tips for a Successful Bedroom Decoration
Decorating a bedroom plays a vital role in making it a warm, gentle space where you feel truly at ease. Whether it’s a child’s or an adult’s bedroom, decoration is above all an aesthetic choice. But feeling comfortable in your sleeping space can also ensure you enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.
1) Arranging the bedroom furniture
Decorating a home—and especially your bedroom—is a genuine art, allowing you to transform your space into a haven of tranquillity. To decorate your room harmoniously and stylishly, it’s essential to choose the right furniture, play with colour, and strike a balance between functionality and aesthetics. But how can you combine a limited budget, comfort, and style? Here are a few ideas and tips to guide you as you arrange your bedroom.
It’s often recommended to avoid overcrowding your bedroom decor in order to maintain a soothing and serene atmosphere. Indeed, an overfilled room can feel chaotic. To create a calm and pleasant ambience, it’s best to furnish the space around a few essential pieces, with the bed as the centrepiece. Then add practical yet elegant furniture, such as a wardrobe for storage and two symmetrical bedside tables to balance the space.
The idea is to select each piece with care, while leaving enough space for your bedroom to breathe and remain functional. Whether you’re arranging a small or large bed, the key pieces should be chosen to optimise the space while adding a touch of modern or classic decor, according to your taste. This thoughtful process will help you create a space that is both pleasant, stylish, and perfectly suited to your needs.
Placing the bed in the bedroom
In general, it is advised to:
- place the headboard against the wall, centred opposite the door,
- or along the longest wall in the room.
Avoid placing your bed under a window. Also allow enough space to move around it (at least 60 cm).
Finally, bedside tables are ideal for small lamps, so you can enjoy reading in comfort.
Storage in the bedroom
To create a bedroom that combines comfort and style, it’s important to prioritise storage that is both streamlined and functional. A well-organised space not only contributes to a serene atmosphere but also maximises every corner of the room. If your bedroom is spacious enough, a large dressing area is an excellent option. It conceals clutter while adding an elegant and practical touch to your decor. As well as keeping your clothes and accessories organised, it can provide a genuine storage space without compromising the style of your room.
If space is more limited, furniture such as a chest of drawers or a wardrobe will do the job perfectly. These essential pieces not only store your belongings but also help structure the space around your bed. They contribute to a calming atmosphere for a good night’s sleep, while offering clever storage solutions.
Depending on your decor style, you might choose furniture with modern, minimalist lines, or alternatively, more classic pieces that bring warmth and charm to your bedroom. The key is to find a balance between practicality and aesthetics, creating a harmonious space where every element, from the bed to the dressing area, has its place.
2) How to choose your bedroom colours?
The choice of colours is particularly important in creating the atmosphere you’re seeking. Knowing how to use colour isn’t always easy, but there are a few techniques worth knowing.
The bedroom is an intimate space where you can play with colour. Here’s a tip from interior designer Camille Hermand: “The more time you spend in your bedroom, the more you’ll want light. If you only use your bedroom for sleeping, darker colours can be a good alternative.”
As with any interior decor, it’s advisable to choose three colours for the bedroom. In smaller rooms, dark colours on the wall at the end of the bedroom—opposite the door—can create a sense of depth and height.
If you spend a lot of time in your bedroom, prioritise soft colours such as grey, pale yellow, or powder pink, which encourage calm. If you prefer a deeper shade, like brick red or teal blue, you might choose to paint only the wall behind the bed, which will enliven the decor without affecting your ability to drift off to sleep.
Beyond the walls, it’s your decorative objects that will bring colour and comfort to your bedroom. Focus on your bed linen. Choose fabrics that suit you, in colours that help you relax.
3) Linen: the ideal fabric for sleep
Linen is a fabric perfectly suited to sleep. Contrary to popular belief, linen is soft. It is also hypoallergenic, antibacterial and thermoregulating—ideal for lowering your body temperature at bedtime and helping you fall asleep quickly.
Embrin is here to help you find your bed linen: duvet cover, sheet, pillowcase and bolster case, or even quilts. For more unusual sizes, we invite you to create your own made-to-measure dimensions.
Don’t forget to carefully choose the colour of the curtains that will dress your bedroom. These decorative elements provide the finishing touch that will enhance your space. Curtains are not just functional; they also play a vital role in the overall atmosphere of the bedroom. Depending on your chosen colour, they can add warmth, light, or, conversely, a sense of privacy.
Take time to consider the shade that will harmonise with your furniture and other decorative elements in the room. Opt for a colour that complements your bed, your sheets, or even your dressing area. Curtains are an excellent way to add personality while maintaining coherence with the overall style of your decor. Once installed, you’ll love the result and enjoy their visual impact every time you enter the room.

4) Be creative: make your own headboard, optimise the lighting…
Now it’s time to play with accessories and personalise your bedroom decor. Let your imagination run free and enjoy finding those elements that will give your space real character, all while creating an atmosphere that makes you smile each time you walk through the door. Well-chosen decorative touches can transform an ordinary room into a unique and welcoming place.
Natural materials such as wood and linen are particularly recommended for adding that soft, warm touch so appreciated in a bedroom. Wood, whether used in furniture, shelves, or frames, brings a natural and soothing atmosphere, perfect for relaxation. Linen, meanwhile, is ideal for your sheets, cushions, or curtains, offering both lightness and comfort, while remaining elegant. These materials create a pleasing contrast with other elements in the room, such as modern furniture or more contemporary details.
Don’t forget to choose accessories that reflect your style and optimise the space, such as clever storage or decorative objects that add personality to your bed or dressing area. By playing with colour, texture, and materials, you can create a sleeping space that combines aesthetics, comfort and functionality, transforming your bedroom into a true cocoon where you’ll love to recharge.
Make the most of your lighting…
First, optimise your lighting: bedside lamps are, of course, essential, but not enough on their own. Multiply the sources to play with light: a beautiful pendant light in glass, linen, or feathers will bring charm to the room. Bright lights are not recommended in a bedroom: so opt for low-energy bulbs or LEDs.
…and your accessories
Finally, a beautiful rug and a quilt will add a cocooning feel, a headboard will give the room character, and cushions will bring colour and energy.
And now: good night!
