Embrin is one of those brands that champions responsible consumption by applying a fair price all year round: you won’t find any sales or promotional campaigns encouraging overconsumption on our website.
- Fair price for flax growers and processors: by agreeing to properly remunerate everyone’s work, we enable the various players in the sector to go ever further in their pursuit of quality.
- Fair price for consumers: by applying a reasonable margin, Embrin is able to promote flax to as many people as possible, while maintaining profitability that allows the company to create, innovate, and hire.
We don’t offer you discounts, but rather longevity, traceability, ethics, ecology, and craftsmanship. By offering quality at the right price, we are making a gesture for the planet: let’s avoid impulsive purchases and choose a product that will last for years to come.
How is the price of our products broken down, and why can’t we lower it?
Purchase of raw materials & making: 42%
Our raw material is textile flax, the only natural fibre produced in France and, in our case, in Normandy. Flax is a plant that requires very few inputs, and its production method is quite close to organic farming. It is mechanically pulled up, naturally retted, and gathered after a few weeks. It is a raw material of exceptional quality, and therefore, logically, more expensive than cotton or synthetic fabrics.
Once it arrives at the workshops of our local partner Terre de Lin, the flax is mechanically scutched. It is then combed and spun in the traditional way. Finally, it is woven and softened by hand by carefully selected French partners, chosen not only for the quality of their work but also for their ecological commitment. This entire process requires expertise and techniques of inestimable value.
VAT: 20%
Like all products you can buy in the shops, ours are subject to value added tax. This is set at 20%, the standard rate.
Salaries and employment costs: 15%
Seamstresses, dyers, weavers, accountants... Your bed linen has passed through many hands that we must pay fairly before it reaches you. That’s why, in our pricing, we take into account the fair and decent wage we pay to everyone involved in creating our products.
This figure also includes all employment costs, such as social security, pension, or unemployment contributions. These represent around 23% of our employees’ gross salary and are mandatory.
Operating costs: 11%
Making bed or bath linen from washed flax is good. Doing so with the right equipment and everything needed to do it well is even better!
For this, we regularly need to purchase new sewing machines, needles, stationery for the office, electricity to keep the whole system running, phones, and much more. All these elements are included in the price of your products.
Also included in this 11% is the management and ongoing improvement of our website, essential for us to offer you our collections, as well as communication costs.
Taxes and duties: 5%
Of the price you pay throughout the year, we pay back 5% in various taxes and duties: corporation tax, territorial economic contribution, property tax, among others.
Once all these expenses have been covered, the net margin comes to around 7%. With this, we can finance new ideas, improve our employees’ working conditions, or invest in advertising.
We are also committed to supporting associations that work for causes close to our hearts. For the past two years, we have chosen to provide financial support to the association "Rires d’Enfants", whose volunteers bring moments of joy and entertainment to children in hospital at the Rouen University Hospital.
Finally, we have chosen to join the Green Friday collective, which brings together a group of brands sharing our vision on all these issues.
