Calculation Method

Summary: The indicators presented – greenhouse gas emissions (in kg of CO₂ equivalent) and water resource usage (in m³ of water consumed) – have been calculated using an algorithm developed by Modern, based on the methodological framework of ADEME (Agency for Ecological Transition), using reference data from Base Impact 2.01 and Ecoinvent 3.9.1, as well as on the information provided by the brand and its suppliers.

Sources: The data used come from the databases Base Impact 2.01 and Ecoinvent 3.9.1, following the methodological guidelines of ADEME. They are enriched with field data and proxies – substitute values selected when specific data are not available – based on scientific literature modelling.

Methodology: The footprint calculations are based on simplified life cycle analysis (LCA), in accordance with the BPX 30-323 standard defined by ADEME. The aggregated scores in points follow the framework of the Environmental Display (AE) as developed by Ecobalyse, with the support of ADEME.

Calculation Scope: Unless otherwise stated, all stages of the finished product's life cycle are considered: sourcing of raw materials, preparation, making and finishing of semi-finished components (fabrics, panels, foams...), product constituent accessories (buttons, zips, laces...), logistical or commercial packaging, making and assembly of the finished product, transport between each production, distribution and end-of-life stage, as well as consumer use (washing, ironing, maintenance...) and end-of-life treatment (landfill, recycling, incineration...).

Error Margin: The analysis aims to identify the main environmental and social impact factors and to provide decision support, highlighting priority action levers. The results provide reliable orders of magnitude.

Certified Platform: The results were generated through a platform developed by Modern using a proprietary algorithm, consistent with the methodology and parameters previously described. The calculation of greenhouse gas emissions has been certified by a delegate mandated by ADEME.
